Affordable radio station software can run on one computer or several.DJB-II Radio Station Software Can Run On One Computer
On-Air on Left Monitor - Production on Right

The original Digital Jukebox "Legacy" On-Air software was known for it’s value price, performance and reliability. DJB-II carries on that tradition with a rock-solid package filled with features only found in products 2 or 3 times the price. DJB-II is our most used radio station software automating nearly 700 commercial, college, LPFM and even Internet radio stations. It is used for Live Assist, Fully Automated, Voice Tracked and Satellite programmed stations.

Multitask On One Computer.... Or In Two Studios

DJB-II can save you money by running On-Air, Production, a Wave-Form Editor and Program Scheduling all on one computer (you'll want two monitors and two soundcards - more on that later). This means you only need one studio for your whole operation!

As your station grows, and you can split the programs into the on-air computer and a second production studio computer to run Production, Wave-Form Editing and Scheduling.  You can add more Production modules - up to 5 total as you grow.

Top of the Screen

Take a look at the main screen for your announcers.  It's really three screens in one.  The top third of the screen tells you what is going on right now.  You'll see a large clock, a button that tells you what mode the system is in (Automation or Jock Assist) and today's date.  Continuing across the top row, is a countdown clock for the currently airing audio cut and a timer showing you the intro. Finally on the right side is the current weather conditions.

Going down the screen, there is a second row of information about what is going on right now.  It begins with the Play Next button, which will start the segue to the next audio cut.  Then we give you detailed information about the current track and a progress bar.  Then comes a button that will stop the audio playing from the log. Followed by a second progress indicator and the VU meters for the playout lines.

The Bottom Two-Thirds of the Screen

On the left side, you'll see the live schedule.   You can scroll through the rest of the day, rearrange cuts with drag and drop, and toggle the view to one that is more touch friendly (a little more info and wider spacing of the cuts) a third view shows you the log with much more information about each cut.

On the right side, is a multi-view window.  In our main image, you'll see the Hot Keys - 200 buttons (over 10 pages) that can be used to stage and play your most used content. It can also be used to show the weather forecast and an audition screen so you can play and rehearse your next break and display a graphic of the current element (usually a CD Cover Graphic). Another option is to access many of the system options that we'll discuss later.

There is also a button to open the Razor Blade Editor a wave-form editor that's perfect for recording phone bits. You can use it to record, edit, and play any audio track.

The On-Air Software is the heart of the DJB-II system

If you're running on multiple computers, the On-Air will be the main workhorse and the other computers will connect across your network to this one so you can work on audio cuts and the logs. You can have as many as 5 computers making the connection (with additional software purchases)

DJB-II Production Radio Software

When you open the Production program, the first thing you'll get is a Menu Page. There are currently 15 options, plus access to the system Settings

This Is How You Edit Your Audio Library

Production

Think of Production as the controller of your audio database.  Any audio cut can be accessed and changed in any way you like. Outdated cuts can be removed and new cuts can be added, manipulated and it's related data can be entered or edited. Every database record (cut) consists of the audio itself, the label for the cut, and (optionally) a related graphic.

The audio tracks can uploaded individually or in batches, and is given a number when uploaded. You are given the opportunity to mark the Intro and the Segue points. You can also mark the "hook" for the system's automatic Hook Promo Feature. This feature builds a promo telling listeners what songs are coming up by playing their hooks in sequence and is completely automated after you select which portion of the song to use. If needed, you can also open the cut in the Razor Blade Editor to trim the cut as needed.

The label defines what kind of element (music, commercial, liner, etc) the cut is. You can also define which music category to place the song in. This comes into play if you're using DJB-II's Music Scheduler. Other label information includes licensing info (see "Reports" below) and music scheduling info such as tempo, gender, daypart, etc.

You can use our Activation and Expiration dates to be sure that commercials run within the time frame the client ordered or that Christmas music doesn't run in July.

Other interesting options include the ability to link to a graphic to display the CD cover or commercial sponsor's logo, a link to buy the song (or visit the sponsor's website). Both could be displayed on your website.

Another powerful option is that you can attach a relay closure to an audio cut. This opens a world of possibilities.

Voice Tracking Screen in DBJ-II Radio Austomation SoftwareVoice Tracking Screen in
DBJ-II Radio Automation Software

Local Voice Tracking Software

The next option in the Production Software Menu is Local Voice Tracking. Local Voice Tracking is included with the system and will work from any computer on the local network with Production installed.

We've engineered Voice Tracking to be just like being live on the air.  If you look at the screen you'll see it has a log view showing where you are in the hour. It tells you when the Voice Track is scheduled to play and which two elements it is between. The weather forecast is on the screen and so is the Hot Keys screen.

  • If you press the VT Audition button, you'll hear the segue.
  • Click Outro and Record you'll be recording while you listen to the segue, just like being live.
  • Click Quick Record and you'll be recording, but you won't hear the music segue.

When you're done, Voice Track will assemble the break. It will lower the music automatically until you come upon the "post" of the song (the "post" is where the vocals start)."

.

DBJ-II also has optional software to allow an announcer to record Voice Tracks across the Internet. This requires a connected computer with microphone, headset, the optional software and a VPN (Virtual Private Network) which you provide.

The DJB-II Log Editor Instantly Updates The OnAir LogWhen You Make Changes In The Log,
They Instantly Update The DJB-II OnAir Computer

Log Editor

The Log Editor simply attaches to the live log on the On-Air computer and lets you manipulate it with drag and drop simplicity. You can also insert and delete audio cuts as you wish.  After you've made a change, it is instantly reflected in the on-air log.

DJB's Log Editor Software is great for PDs and MDs who want to massage the music schedule after commercials have been merged in. And it's a big help when sales comes in with an important "starts now" commercial schedule.

DJB-II's Razor Blade Editor Screen ShotWith DJB-II, We Include Our Razor Blade
Audio Editor In Both Production and OnAir

Razor Blade Audio File Editor

DJB's Razor Blade Audio Editor is a great editor. In fact, it's good enough to become your everyday audio editor, keeping you from needing to invest in one of the high priced editors on the market. You depend on it in Production to record, edit and prepare commercials and other audio cuts for air. But, best of all, you'll use it in the On-Air studio to splice interviews, quick phone bits, even editing live on-air recordings for uploading to podcasts while still on the air.

The Razor Blade Editor can edit any audio cut on the computer, or it can record a new cut.  It splices and dices, it engineers smooth fades, lets you adjust levels, even normalizes  the final cut.

And if you miss the mark for a 30 or 60 second commercial, Razor Blade can stretch or shrink the length of the ad by up to 5% without sounding like the chipmunks or some science fiction monster.  If you get any programming from a network or satellite, this feature will make your breaks flawless and rejoins your program like the network was waiting for you

Easily Assign Switch Closures

Satellite Grids

Stations that run satellite programming can assign which program is running.  You do not want another program's closures to trigger events on the air.  This grid lets you control which program is running each hour.

If you're not running any programming from satellite, a 0 in the grid turns them all off.

Hot Key Editor

There are 200 Hot Keys possible with our DJB-II Radio Automation Software. They are spread out over 10 pages.  Stations tell us they set aside several pages for the morning show to set up bits and drops in.  Other uses are liners and voices, jingles and talk beds. All an announcer needs to do is find the Hotkey and press it.

Editing what plays on the Hot Keys is easy. Open the Hot Key Editor, load the correct page, then click the button you want to change.  The Audio Library will popup and you can select any cut to insert.

After you return to the Hot Key Editor screen you can change the text on the label using the grid on the right side. Your changes are reflected instantly on the button.

Edit Command Cuts

The really cool thing about about DJB-II is that it allows you to create scripts to make things happen.

For example, if you're running a satellite operation, a Broadcast Tools Switcher is necessary to get your satellite signal on the air.  These switchers communicate with your On-Air computer by sending signals back and forth.  The Edit Commands Cuts window lets you build a sequence of commands that can be called by your log schedule.  So your log calls a cut number and that sends a sequence to tell the switcher to turn on your network news feed.

Another example is that you could tell your computer to turn on a feed across the internet.  A simple cut number in your schedule tells your computer to go to a website URL and put the audio on the air, then start the next event 2 seconds before the end of the length programmed for that cut.

This is an advanced function, but it really can be powerful.  As part of your basic web support program, we'll be glad to help you create the right commands to do the things you want to do.

The DJB-II Multi-Cuts Cart Screen Lets You Control The Rotation Of Ad CutsThe DJB-II Multi-Cuts Cart Screen Lets
You Control The Rotation Of Ad Cuts

Multi-Cut Carts

This is most often used when an advertiser wants to run several different commercials. Commercial 1 needs to run 50% of the time, while Commercial 2 runs 25% of the time and Commercial 3 runs 25% of the time.  Many Traffic Systems can handle that internally, but many can't.  DJB-II to the rescue:  You can simply schedule one cut number for all of the advertisers schedule. Then set up that cut to be a multi cut cart and assign the cuts to to be rotated in a set sequence that meets the rotation request.  In this case it would be similar to this: Ad#1, Ad#2, Ad#1, Ad#3.

Time and Temp Setup

With DJB-II radio software you get an advanced time and temp system. Built into it is a recorder to help your announcers record the necessary breaks sequentially.

You then assign the hours each announcer's voice will run. This adds a great local flavor to automated stations with recognizable announcers, or to locally voice tracked stations. It also means one announcer doesn't have to voice the whole 24 hours, just the hours he is on the air.

Our DJB-II Automation System Has Many Ways To Create Daily SchedulesOur DJB-II Automation System Has
Many Ways To Create Daily Schedules

Scheduler

Creating the daily schedule is one of the most important functions at the radio station. And different stations have vastly different needs when it come to scheduling. No worries, DJB-II can handle your way. Lets examine the options:

External Traffic and External Music Software

In this case DJB-II imports each log with the touch of a button, then creates the daily schedule by merging them together.  The music log is primary and all the log directives are built into it.

Our Music Scheduler gives you control of the way your music rotatesDJB-II Has A Powerful
Music Scheduler Built In

External Traffic and Internal Music Scheduling

DJB-II can handle scheduling the music for you.  You create hourly clock templates which are assembled into a full days schedule. The music is scheduled according to the rules you define: Categories are controlled by the template, then songs get scheduled in the order of longest rested in the category that fits. You can define precedence for Artist Protection, Title Protection, Gender Protection, Daypart Protection,  and Tempo rules.

The traffic log is imported and then merged with the schedule.

Satellite programming is easy with the DJB-II Log Shell EditorSatellite Programming Is Easy To Set Up With DJB-II's Log Shell Editor

External Traffic and Satellite Programming

Satellite programming is controlled by the same scheduler as music but without the music categories.  Instead of putting in Music categories, you define the hourly log templates with segments of satellite programming that match the clocks you get from your program providers. The traffic log gets imported and merges with the template to provide the daily schedule.

No Traffic

If commercial scheduling and billing isn't needed, then DJB-II can provide the complete log.  You define the programming (music or satellite) in the hourly templates, then create the final Daily Schedule at the touch of a button. You can schedule promos or PSAs much like music: define them in a category and rotate the category. Or you can assign particular tracks in the template with no rotation needed.

Reports

DJB-II has a number of reports built in. For commercial stations there are reconciliation reports to match your scheduling against what actually ran. For music stations, you can audit which songs played and how often. You can also export a BMI/ASCAP report, saving that particular headache. For technical issues, you can run several reports that show you exactly what the system did (or tried to do).

Internet Voice Tracking Functions

The IVT Schedule pack software builds a pack of files that the Internet Voice Tracking software uses so they can be easily downloaded. The IVT Schedule Pack Collects
The Files for Internet Voice Tracking Software

IVT Create Schedule Pack

While doing local voice tracking, the software has access to the daily log and audio. While running the Internet Voice Tracking Software (an optional add-on) , you don't want to make a complete system backup to send over the internet.  Instead, DJB-II can create an"IVT Schedule Pack" with has all the log files needed to do the Voice Tracking that is scheduled.

This works with the IVT Audio Scooper which gathers all the intro and outro audio to give your internet voice track software everything needed to recreate that "live" feel our Voice Tracker is known for while making the file transfer much faster.  When you're done, just your voice files are transferred back to the system, saving time for data transfer.

As mentioned above, the IVT Audio Scooper works with the IVT Create Schedule Pack to put together all of the files needed to use the Optional Internet Voice Tracking Software.  The schedule pack, gathers the log schedule and the Audio Scooper gathers the intros and outros of the tracks you will be Voice Tracking.

Did you know that DJB-II has a powerful Background Recorder? It can be programmed to capture any audio you want.  For instance, if you air a program that is fed by satellite for playback at a different time, the BGR is the perfect tool.

You set the time to start recording and end recording. You can also use closures to trigger the start and stop. You can record once a week, or daily at the same time. You also define the cut name.

When its done, you can import those cuts into the database with Production.

Other Features You're Going to Love

DJB-II Automation Software Settings ScreenControl Many Settings For The
DJB-II Radio Automation Software

Fine Tune Settings

A lot of settings can affect the "sound" of your station, and you get access to them all.  One example is the Segue settings. CHR stations will want fast and crisp segues, while a Lite AC will want them to be a little slower and softer.  While marking segue points in the library, a CHR will set the seque point more aggressively. In the settings, you can also set a fade for the first element which will get it off the air faster and let the new one take over.

You can set the time for a default segue, fade length, auto-ducking, and more so you get the right sound for your station.

Automated "Coming Next Hour" Hook Promo

This promo consists of an Open: "Coming up on WDJB," followed by the "hooks" from 3-5 songs (separated by stingers), ending with a Closing: "WDJB Home of the Hits!"

And all you need to do is schedule the promo in the log.  The system will assemble the opening cut, the hooks, the stingers and the closing cut. The songs used will all be from the upcoming log and you get to choose how many songs to skip and how many songs to use (3-5).

The only other thing needed is to mark the hooks in your music library, which is easy.
